Wildalaya Featured in The Slow Journal

Back to Through the Inkwell

A Quiet Milestone for Slow Fashion.
There are moments in business that feel loud.

And then there are the quiet ones.
The ones that remind you you're walking the right path.

Being featured by The Slow Journal as one of Australia's slow fashion brands is one of those moments for us.

It isn't just another mention online. It's recognition from a publication dedicated to celebrating brands that value craftsmanship over convenience, natural materials over synthetics, and timeless design over passing trends. Those values are exactly why Wildalaya exists.

A Brand Built Slowly

Wildalaya was never created to keep up with trends.

It began with a simple belief: clothing should feel good—not just emotionally, but physically too.

After discovering beautiful hemp textiles while travelling through the Himalayas, I became fascinated by natural fibres and the way they connected us back to nature. That journey eventually led to creating Wildalaya, a brand inspired by both India and Australia, where garments are made to be lived in rather than simply worn.

Every piece starts with a question:

"Will someone still reach for this years from now?"

If the answer isn't yes, it doesn't belong in our collection.

Why Slow Fashion Matters

The fashion industry moves incredibly fast.

Collections change weekly. Trends disappear almost as quickly as they arrive. Clothing has become disposable.

Slow fashion asks us to pause.

To choose fewer pieces that are made better.

To value craftsmanship.

To appreciate the hands that create our clothes.

To wear garments season after season instead of replacing them every few months.

For us, slow fashion isn't simply about sustainability—it's about creating a healthier relationship with what we own.

When your wardrobe is filled with pieces you genuinely love, getting dressed becomes simpler.

Natural Fabrics, Always

One of the reasons The Slow Journal resonated with our story is our commitment to natural fibres.

Our collections are made using fabrics like hemp and cotton—materials chosen because they're breathable, comfortable and designed to be worn through changing seasons.

Natural fabrics move differently.

They soften over time.

They become part of your everyday life instead of something you can't wait to take off at the end of the day.

In a world increasingly filled with synthetic materials, we're proud to keep creating clothing that lets your skin breathe and your wardrobe last longer.

Made With Intention

Every Wildalaya garment is produced in small batches alongside skilled artisans in India.

We don't believe in overproduction.

We don't chase dozens of collections every year.

Instead, we refine, improve and release pieces when they're ready.

It's a slower process—but that's exactly the point.

Thoughtful clothing simply can't be rushed.

More Than a Feature

Seeing Wildalaya alongside so many incredible Australian makers in The Slow Journal feels incredibly special.

We're surrounded by brands creating jewellery, homewares, knitwear and clothing with genuine care for people, craftsmanship and the planet. It's a reminder that there's a growing community choosing to build businesses differently—one thoughtful piece at a time.

Thank You

If you've ever chosen Wildalaya, shared us with a friend, worn one of our wrap skirts on holiday, or simply followed our journey, this recognition belongs to you too.

Small independent brands are built by communities, not algorithms.

Every order, every kind message and every returning customer allows us to keep choosing quality over quantity.

And that's something we're endlessly grateful for.

Here's to slowing down, choosing well, and creating wardrobes that tell stories instead of following trends.

With love,

Meg
